A Self-Portrait Session
Over the last 12 years I have done self-portraits. Most of the time it was to be in the frame with my daughter. I ended up joining a self-portrait group 6 years ago and it pushed me to take photos of myself without my daughter in the frame. This was incredibly hard! When I edited the photos I had a thousand insecurities and ripped myself to shreds. What I didn’t think would happen was the more I did them the more I accepted myself exactly as I am. Here I am 12 years down the road. I don’t do these as much as I would like to, but I am so happy that I am able to conquer my insecurities and look at these with the same grace as I do my client sessions. I have called these self-love sessions. Do you want to know what makes me the most happy? Every single time I post these to my Instagram account, I receive an inquiry from a woman telling me that they want to do a self love session. Sometimes there’s reasons behind them, sometimes there’s not. It’s just a session “I want to do” and that’s it. That’s enough reason! If sharing my self portraits can influence someone else to get behind the lens and love themselves more, then I will continue to share and be proud of how far I have come with this journey.
These are not hard to do. I use a tripod from Amazon and my self-timer on my camera. My tip is simply to find an area that you may want to shoot in, study the lighting, and get behind your lens!
